Kemono Friends is set in Japari Park, a mysterious, huge zoo-like safari where animals have transformed into cute humanoid girls called Friends. This happens thanks to a magical substance called Sandstar, which gives them personalities, speech, and human traits while keeping elements of their animal nature.
One day, a lost human girl (nicknamed Kaban, because she wears a backpack) wakes up in the park with no memories of who she is. She meets Serval, a cheerful and curious serval cat Friend, and together they travel across Japari Park to find out what kind of Friend Kaban might be — and what’s really going on in the park.
